The event will gather\u00a01,700 athletes from 80 countries\u2014the highest participation figure in its history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of\u00a0five disciplines\u00a0will be contested:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Uphill<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Classic<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>U20<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Short Trail<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Long Trail<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final countdown has begun, and the organizing team is working intensely to ensure everything is in place by opening day. In the coming days, the deadline will close for national federations to submit their final list of participating athletes. Meanwhile, final details are being polished in key areas such as\u00a0transportation, accommodation, safety, volunteer coordination, and the\u00a0opening and closing ceremonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Arag\u00f3n Takes the Global Stage<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Jorge Azc\u00f3n is confident that&nbsp;<em>\u201cthis championship will put Arag\u00f3n, Canfranc, and the entire Pyrenees on the world map for these disciplines, further cementing our position as a leading destination for mountain and trail events. Moreover, it serves as a model for grassroots sports. We want our youth to find role models in these athletes and be inspired to push their own limits.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An International Effort with Spanish Leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The World Championships are organized under the supervision of\u00a0World Athletics, in collaboration with the\u00a0World Mountain Running Association (WMRA),\u00a0International Trail Running Association (ITRA),\u00a0International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), and the\u00a0Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA). The event also receives support from the\u00a0Spanish Sports Council (CSD),\u00a0Government of Arag\u00f3n,\u00a0Huesca Provincial Council (DPH), and\u00a0Canfranc City Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ra\u00fal Chapado: \u201cA Tribute to Nature, Effort and Unity\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ra\u00fal Chapado, President of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation and Vice President of World Athletics, expressed in the weeks leading up to the event:<br><em>\u201cSpain welcomes this World Championship with open arms. As President of the RFEA and Vice President of World Athletics, I couldn\u2019t be prouder. This event will be a tribute to nature, to hard work, and to the unity among nations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Canfranc 2025: Sports, Sustainability and Development<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Azc\u00f3n emphasized that&nbsp;<strong>CanfrancPirineos 2025 is about more than just sport<\/strong>:<br><em>\u201cIt\u2019s also about development. It takes place in a protected natural area of our Pyrenees and will be a major boost for tourism, the economy, and the international visibility of our region.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the same vein, Mayor Fernando S\u00e1nchez stressed that the World Championships&nbsp;<em>\u201cwill be an example of sustainability, environmental respect, and of the value of our Pyrenean landscape as part of our identity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also underlined the challenge and significance of hosting a World Championship in a town of barely 600 residents:<br><em>\u201cEspecially now that we know the 2027 host city will be Cape Town, South Africa\u2014a city with over 5 million inhabitants.
